Donations Needed                        .
Help, Aid, Support, Donations --- All are needed in varying degrees to bring Pass Christian to some semblance of what it was. Fortunately, many of the residents were well to do and had grand homes situated along the Beach Front or in upscale subdivisions or inland from the Gulf shoreline along several bayous or rivers. However, most of these houses were blown away and or innundated by the 30-foot tidal surge. The poor were very poor, but proud people who would find it hard to accept handouts.
It will take years for residential dwellings to be reconstructed. In the mean time, the community infrastructure is completely gone. Only one of four public schools was left operable. Only one of a dozen city buildings exists. The Sewerage and Water Board system was severly damaged.
Following Hurricane Camille, 37 years ago, the city officials shunned Federal Aid in deference to going it alone. This time, Katrina devastation is enormously worse. There was only one commercial enterprise that processed through the storm undamaged. It was a Snowball Stand that sells Ice cones for a dollar. The most recent tax contributor was the heavily damaged WalMart, and all of us dearly hope that they will join us in the rebuilding process. Beyond doubt, Pass Christian needs a lot of Help!
